RSL 203: Composing Music (Solo) Exam ‘18

Task 1: Planning 


My candidate number: . My centre number: 17343
My name is Lukasz. The software I will be playing for my composition demo is Garage Band.
Through my compositions, I want to achieve the following personal goals:
  1. Personal Goal 1: improve composition skills by creating track using a range of instruments.
  2. Personal Goal 2: create tracks in different styles.
  3. Personal Goal 3: record all my tracks in time to show good composition skills.

To help achieve the above goals, I think I have the following skills that I can use:
  1. Skill 1: My first good skill is imagination.
  2. Skill 2: My second good skill is good timing.
  3. Skill 3: My third good skill is using garage band for good editing.

I will know if I have achieved my goals at the end of the assessment because have 15 minutes of composition.

The audience I am playing my compositions to A&R. Their expectations will be high, i will meet their expectations by coposint 15 minutes of good music.

I will compose my music in the following style/styles in modern style. This is because it has modern instruments like a guitar and piano.
  
My ideas for my compositions are to compose a reange of songs. I will do it by using garage band.

The requirements of the brief are compose 15 minutes of music for A&R. I will meet these requirements by producing 15 minutes.
I will need to involve the following people in my performance a vocalist to sing over the top. This is because i do not want to sing.

I will need the following resources and equipment ipad and headphones, when being played to the audience it needs an aux cable and speaker. 

I will need to spend 20 hours at school preparing, performing and evaluating the event. I will spend my time by doing composition for most of the time, i will get people to listen to is so i can get feedback than i will improve it using what they said. 

When composing, I will need to consider the following health and safety issues:
Health & Safety Issue 1: to loud and damage peoples ears. How I will make sure I am safe check levels are not too loud.
Health & Safety Issue 2: trip over leads. How I will make sure I am safe look where your going.
Health & Safety Issue 3: get electrocuted. How I will make sure I am safe tape down bare wire.
Health & Safety Issue 4: overcrowding. How I will make sure I am safe only certain amount people at one time, maximum audience numbers.
I used the following website(s) to help me with my research wikipedia.

To compose at least 15 minutes of music I will need to compose the following number of pieces:
  1. Composition 1: Style: Pop              Song title:       One          Length of song: 1 minute 20 .
  2. Composition 2: Style: Pop              Song title:       Two          Length of song:  2 minutes.
  3. Composition 3: Style: Pop              Song title:       Three       Length of song:  12 minutes.
The total length of my demo will therefore be 15 minutes and 20 seconds
I have chosen to write these songs in this order because of development of composition.

Task 2: Diary

Week 19 Thursday 18th January 2018 (2 hours):
The composition name I will work on: One.
Describe what I will work on:  drums.
This composition meets the brief because it has vocals.
What needs work: add more instruments.
Week 20 Thursday 25th January 2018 (2 hours):
Plan: come up with a drum beat for my piece using several parts of the kit.
What went well: recorded two drum tracks that are in time with the piano part.
This composition meets the brief because it is in time so A and R will think i sound profesional.
What needs work: add a guitar part.
Week 21 Thursday 1st February 2018 (2 hours):
Plan: Lyrics.
What went well:  found some on the internet.
This composition meets the brief because it suits my style.
What needs work: guitar part.
Week 22 Thursday 8th February 2018 (2 hours):
Plan: Create a backing for my third piece.
What went well:  got a drum piece and piano chords.
This composition meets the brief because it is in time so sounds professional.
What needs work: need a melody over the top .
Week 24 Thursday 22nd February 2018 (2 hours):
Plan: finish piano part.
What went well:  the timing was ok.
This composition meets the brief because its in time.
What needs work: it doesn't fit with the ryff so i need to re record the chords.
Week 25 Thursday 1st March 2018 (2 hours):
Plan: Composition Two.
What went well:  got a beat for it.
This composition meets the brief because it has lyrics.
What needs work: adding more instruments.
Week 25 Thursday 08/03/18 Dress Rehearsal of Demo Showcase (2 hours):
Plan: Composition 3.
What went well:  Its long.
This composition meets the brief because has vocals.
What needs work: add melody.
Week 26 Wednesday 14/03/18 Final Demo Showcase (2 hours):
Plan: add melody.
What went well:  added a melody.
This composition meets the brief because its 15 minutes all together.
What needs work: completed.

Conclusion:
My compositions were suitable for the event brief because i composed a variety of music which is in a certain style.
